IndiGo Fleet Explained: Every Aircraft Type It Flies in 2026

IndiGo had a fleet of 432 aircraft as of 30 June 2026, almost all of them Airbus A320-family jets. The biggest groups are 176 A321neos and 174 A320neos, followed by 44 ATR 72-600 turboprops for regional routes.

The figures come from IndiGo’s results press release for the April to June 2026 quarter. This guide explains every aircraft type in the fleet, how many seats each has, how IndiGo pays for its planes, and the 901 aircraft it still has on order.

IndiGo Fleet Size in 2026

According to the Q1 FY27 earnings presentation, IndiGo’s fleet changed as follows:

  • 30 June 2025: 416 aircraft
  • 31 March 2026: 441 aircraft
  • 30 June 2026: 432 aircraft, a net decrease of 9 passenger aircraft during the quarter

Airbus A321neo

The A321neo is now IndiGo’s largest aircraft type, with 176 in the fleet. It is the longest member of the A320neo family, so IndiGo uses it to carry more passengers on busy routes. Most have 222 or 232 seats. Some have the IndiGoStretch cabin, with 220 seats in total.

Airbus A320neo

The A320neo is the aircraft most people picture when they think of IndiGo. With 174 in the fleet, it flies domestic routes across India and short international routes. IndiGo lists it with 180 or 186 seats. If you want to know how it compares with its Boeing rival, see our A320neo vs 737 MAX 8 comparison.

ATR 72-600

The ATR 72-600 is a turboprop with 78 seats. IndiGo has 44 ATRs, and its analyst presentation lists them for regional routes connecting India. It also names regional routes as one of its growth areas.

Airbus A320ceo

IndiGo still flies 26 A320ceos, the older version of the A320 with the previous generation of engines (ceo stands for “current engine option”; see how Airbus names its aircraft). Each has 180 seats. The number was the same at the end of June 2025 and June 2026.

Airbus A321XLR

The A321XLR is the long-range version of the A321neo. IndiGo had 3 at the end of June 2026, each with 12 IndiGoStretch seats and 183 economy seats, and said it expected 9 deliveries in FY27. Its first route was Mumbai and Delhi to Athens in January 2026. IndiGo says the XLR will also take over its Mumbai to Amsterdam flights from 25 October 2026.

Boeing 787-9 (damp lease)

IndiGo has been flying six Boeing 787-9s on a wet lease (damp lease, with the lessor supplying some crew) from Norse Atlantic Airways since early 2025, to start long-haul flights to the UK and Europe. On 31 July 2026, IndiGo announced it would end these widebody operations from 25 October 2026, citing airspace constraints, higher fuel costs and currency pressure. It said London Heathrow flights would stop until its own A350s arrive.

IndiGo also has 3 A321 freighters for its cargo business, 6E CarGo. IndiGo lists them as carrying more than 20 tonnes each.

Owned or Leased? How IndiGo Pays for Its Planes

Most IndiGo aircraft are leased. On 30 June 2026, according to the Q1 FY27 presentation:

  • 329 on operating lease
  • 60 on finance lease
  • 36 owned
  • 7 damp-leased (six 787s and one A321neo)

IndiGo says it wants owned and finance-leased aircraft to make up 30 to 40% of its fleet by FY2030, up from about 20% in FY26.

IndiGo Aircraft Orders

IndiGo says it has the largest order book of any airline in the world. Its June 2026 analyst presentation lists 901 aircraft yet to be delivered, with orders going back to 2006. The largest single order was for 500 A320-family aircraft in 2023.

  • A320neo family: the bulk of the order book, including A320neos, A321neos and A321XLRs.
  • Airbus A350: IndiGo increased its A350 order from 30 to 60 aircraft. These will be its first widebody jets of its own, and IndiGo says they will have 330+ seats.
  • Plans to FY2030: about 40% of capacity on international routes and around 3,000 daily departures, up from about 2,200.

Why IndiGo Flies Mostly One Aircraft Family

Almost all IndiGo jets belong to the A320 family. Pilots, engineers and spare parts can be shared across the A320, A320neo and A321neo, instead of being split between different aircraft families. This simple, narrowbody-heavy fleet is a big part of how a low-cost airline keeps its costs down. The ATRs, XLRs and future A350s are added for jobs the A320 and A321 cannot do well: regional routes, and longer international flights.
